Mike Knecht was bitten by the guitar bug in the late 70's. Influenced by great super-groups such as The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and guitar gods like Peter Frampton and Eddie Van Halen, Mike spent thousands of hours in his bedroom learning the great riffs and solos. As a self-taught musician he has been through the ropes and has a unique ability to pass his experiences on to young players.
Mike is a lifelong resident of Solon who attended grade school at St. Rita. While at Walsh Jesuit High School, Mike was an instrumental member of the stage band. This experience introduced Mike to the sounds, styles, and disciplines of big band and jazz. Mike has a very diverse listening background that ranges from classical music to alternative rock - as well as everything in between.
A guitar instructor since 2004, Mike joined the GitterPicker teaching staff in January, 2008. Mike is a very popular teacher because of his patience and love for teaching the guitar. He is especially gifted when working with children. Mike continues to create successful guitar players by immediately teaching songs that his students want to practice. His lesson program is built around many of the songs made popular again thanks to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Once the student has gained good practicing habits and solid muscle memory he fills in the blanks by introducing note reading, scales, and theory.
