Rex Ackerman | Electric Guitar | Acoustic Guitar
Rex Ackerman is one of the newest additions to the GitterPicker teaching staff joining us in early 2009. An incredibly gifted guitarist, Rex has been a part of the Akron/Cleveland rock and roll scene for decades. His name is synonymous with "speed". He produces extremely tasteful notes at a tempo that can only be accomplished through years of practice.
In his early twenties Rex attended Kent State University majoring in music education. The rock and roll bug bit him so he decided to pursue life on the road as a touring musician instead of life in a classroom as an educator. As the lead guitarist in bands such as The League, Ashes, and HOTT, Rex found himself opening for national touring acts in clubs such as The Agora, JB's, The Fantasy, Spanky's, Big Apple, The Flying Machine, and Filthy McNasty's. Today he fronts two bands; RTTL and Bad Company tribute band, Shooting Star.
Influenced by great guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Brad Paisley, and Joe Bonammasa, Rex has created a lesson program that is both fun and challenging.
Rex's patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to instruct in many diverse styles are his greatest strengths. His experience has taught him that tailoring students' lessons to their individual musical tastes is key to their success. Although adept at teaching music theory and composition, getting students to play their favorite songs as soon as possible is his main goal. In addition to educational, Rex insists on making the learning experience fun. Students of all ages as well as those with special needs are welcome.
