Our combination open-mic / Deja Voodoo concert was a huge success on on Saturday, January 16. We completely packed Shots Bar at Freeway Lanes in Solon. Our next Deja Voodoo opening is going to be Saturday, March 6. We'll be at freeway lanes again.
You all know the lead guitarist in the local blues band Deja Voodoo - GitterPicker instructor, Mark Verba. Mark and the band had a great time serving as the house band for our last open-mic jam session back in January. We've all been invited back to do it again. This was a crazy night so we are adding some needed structure to the event.
For starters, any student interested in doing this jam should talk to their teacher. We want this format to be more of a jam session where students will get up and play 12-bar blues with the band as well as other students. Michael Grady, Mike Knecht, Rex Ackerman, Harry, Vince, and Mark can work with any student over the next month to prepare for the jam.
If you prefer to use backing tracks and do your own thing, that is fine. If you are already part of a band, bring them along to perform. Mark's drummer has given permission to use his drum set.
This show will run from 6pm to approximately 8:30pm. All students will perform one song. Once every student has gotten to play we will call students to do a second song if time permits.
Rules for the Jam
We want these Jam Nights to be fun, friendly and provide the maximum opportunity for everyone to participate. So, based on feedback from our last Jam Night (and how the “pros” do it), Here’s how it will work:

ALL AGES AND LEVELS WELCOME!!!! A great way to learn is by playing with people of different ages, styles and abilities. Our goal is to have everyone walk away feeling like they learned something.

We will provide a “back-line” of amplification that will consists of top-notch guitar and bass amps, drums and microphones. We will also set volume levels to ensure that everyone can be heard while not over-powering anyone (GitterPicker sells ear-plugs!)

Just bring your instrument. Please do not bring your Amp. We will have everything ready for you to just “plug-in”. this will ensure volume consistency and a structured pace to the overall jam. Guitarists may bring a pedal board or an effect.

We anticipate having 4-5 people play at a time (Drummer, Bass, 1-2 guitarists and a singer). Each group will play 2 songs or just “jam” on a blues progression.

We will have a sign-up sheet at the event and request that anyone wanting to participate please sign-up. We will then call people up and discuss what each group will play, and quickly review the songs’ key and chords as well as who will take solos.

To keep things moving, we will have an “on-deck” policy where the next group of students/musicians will be off to the side getting tuned up and ready to go. That way when one group is finished, the next group simply “plugs-in.” There will be Gitter Picker staff helping with the group playing and with the group of musicians on the “on-deck” circle.

If you intend to use your own backing track you must bring an iPod or MP3 player with a 1/8" stereo headphone jack. GitterPicker will supply the cable and PC to play the backing track. If you are performing with a backing track that we use in our lesson rooms GitterPicker will supply it.
